A Basic Guide to Body Piercing's
Men's Piercings
Prince Albert

The Prince Albert Piercing is made through the urethra at the base of the penis head. This is probably the most popular male genital piercing. The actual amount of flesh pierced is very small, the procedure is quick and heals rapidly. The inside diameter of the ring should be equal to the distance between the urethral meatus (exit hole) and the piercing. The Prince Albert is said to enhance sexual stimulation for both partners.

Dydoes

Dydoes, usually worn in pairs, are piercings around the coronal edge of the penis head. Barbell studs are worn in the piercing, and should have small heads as the pressure from standard large head barbells could pull the piercing to the surface. This piercing is only appropriate for a man who has been circumcised, and is said to return some of the sensation lost with the removal of the foreskin.

Frenum

Frenum piercings are made through the loose web of skin between the foreskin and the head of the penis. Sizing and placement is extremely important, and the procedure and healing are rapid.

ForeSkin
Foreskins can take single or multiple piercings. Because the tissue is so thin, healing is rapid. The foreskin piercing can be used both to increase sensation or to ensure chastity.

Apadravya
This is a vertical piercing through the penis head, often placed so that the underside emerges from the same hole in a Prince Albert piercing. The piercing is discussed in the "Kama Sutra", the ancient Hindu writings on love, as a source of supreme pleasure to the male and his partner. It is a major piercing and will take several months to heal (no, you don't have to abstain that long!).

Ampallang
This piercing is placed horizontally through the head of the penis and may or may not intercept the urethra, depending on the positioning chosen. The piercing is said to greatly enhance sex for both partners. As it is a long piercing, it can take six months or more to fully heal, although ampallangs placed through the urethra tend to heal more rapidly.

Guich
A horizontal piercing located between the scrotum and the anus, usually around where an inseam would be on a pair of pants. It's one of the most difficult piercings to make and live with. Not for those who are required to spend long periods of time sitting! A flexible nylon "sleeper" will increase comfort during healing, and after healing a barbell is recommended instead of a ring.

Hafada

A comparatively superficial piercing, placed between the scrotum and the penis. Usually the piercings are worn in multiples, such as one on each side of the scrotum or several down the central "seam" of the scrotum.

Women's Piercings
Inner Labia

Inner labia are the hairless, wrinkled, often darkly pigmented lobes of skin which fringe the vagain. They are the most popular site for female genital piercings because they are very thin, relatively easy to pierce, and heal more quickly than any other body piercing.

Outer Labia

Outer labia form the exterior of the vulva. They can be pierced anywhere along their length, although a piercing placed nearer to the back of the outer labia can cause discomfort while sitting. Because outer labia are thicker than inner labia, they may take a lot longer to heal.

Clit Hood

The clitoral hood is the fold of skin covering the clitoris, with it's lower edges joining into the front of the inner labia. The hood can be pierced either vertically or horizontally and either a circular ring or barbell can be worn. Straight barbells can be worn after healing, which is rapid.

Unisex Piercings

Navel

Usually the ridge of skin directly above the navel is pierced. This is a particularly difficult piercing to heal and retain. It requires a great deal of dedication as it can easily become irritated by belts, waistbands, and even sitting or bending. If you're not willing to give up wearing tight jeans for the duration of the healing period, this piercing is not for you. Surgical Steel and Gold Navel Jewelry

Nostril

This piercing has become very popular, but many people are not aware of the risks involved. Placement and technique is crucial, as is prroper jewelry. Never allow your nose to be pierced with a piercing gun, or install an earring stud into a nose piercing. Nostril Jewelry.

Septum

This piercing is done through the thin web of skin beneath the central nasal cartilage. Jewelry choices range from the invisible septum retainer to a very visible set of septum spikes or tusks. Septum Jewelry

Ear

The most common place to pierce is the earlobe. Ohter parts of the ear which have cartilage between the two layers of skin, including the ear lobe and tragus, heal much quicker if the piercing is made slightly larger than the jewelry gauge. This allows the skin on either side of the cartilage to shrink around the jewelry while the actual piercing through the cartilage remains the same size. Ear Jewelry

Tongue

this piercing can be done at various spots along the center of the tongue. It heals very quickly and is one of the most painless piercings. A straight barbell or a stud with a flat disc back must be worn during healing. The jewelry must be exactly the right size, so proper measurements made before piercing are crucial. Some tongue swelling is to be expected after the piercing. Plan to eat soft foods during the healing process. Tongue Jewelry

Labret

A piercing done through the middle of the lower lip. During the healing period the lip may swell for a day or two. Proper measuring of the area is essential for the proper jewelry to be installed. Labret Jewelry

Eyebrow

Normally placed so the jewelry appears to wrap around the eyebrow, a 20 gauge ring is the preferred jewelry choice, although 14 gauge has been used by some piercers with success. Difficult to heal out if you sleep on your stomach. Eyebrow Jewelry

Lip
Can be placed anywhere along the length of the two lips. Expect some swelling during the healing period. Jewelry of choice is a 20 gauge ring although 14 gauge rings have been used with great success.

Nipples

Next to the ear, this has become the most common body part to be pierced. Nipples are usually pierced horizontally, but can be pierced vertically or even diagonally. Care in placement is extremely important, female's nipples should be measured while they are standing or sitting. The piercing must be made directly through the center of the nipple. Too high, and the nipple will drop with the weight of the jewelry, too low and it will point upwards. Nipple piercing should not interfere with breast feeding. Aftercare is extremely important. Problems in healing can often be solved by varying the aftercare routine. Nipple Jewelry

Surface to Surface
These piercings, which go through flat areas of skin, are fairly new and should be attempted with great caution and only by a professional piercer. Use your common sense when considering any piercing and listen to the recommendations of a piercer you trust.
